Hello and good day to whoever reads this. I was doing some research on organizations that might be able to help me. After examining your website, I feel compelled to reach out to your organization for help. To make a long story short, my name is George Hocker. I am a 60 year old grandfather of 8, and a disabled Navy veteran who has been homeless numerous times due to health and family issues these past few years. I am currently waiting for my social security disability case to close. It is currently in the appeals process. I have been staying in a transitional shelter at the Salvation Army in Atlanta, GA. for the past 34 days. I am waiting to be screened for HUDVASH, and I am in the process of applying for a service connected pension in hopes of obtaining some sort of income. As of now, it looks like it is going to take quite a few more months before stable housing is possible for me. This is very difficult for me. I started working and supporting myself at the age of 16. I continued working to support my family for 40 years. I wish I could work myself out of this particular situation. But my health will no longer allow it. I am grateful that I am not currently sleeping on the streets, and that I have a roof over my head at night and food to eat. I am not a substance abuser or an alcoholic. I am just a veteran who fell upon bad luck in his later years. I do admit that I should have made better decisions with my money during my younger years, so that I would be more financially secure in my older years. I blame no one but myself at this point in my life. However, I feel that our government is lacking adequate care for veterans in my position. There are many programs for those veterans who can work, or veterans who are substance abusers. I do not fall into that category. Therefore, I am forced to live with drug addicts, prostitutes, women, children, families, and others things I refuse to mention while I wait. I am not sure if I can endure another month in shelters. Let alone, another 4 to 6 months. Does your organization assist veterans with HUDVASH? Does your organization provide temporary/permanent housing for disabled veterans who are waiting on financial assistance before they can become stable? I know that you may not be able to help me. However, I still believe in all that is good. Therefore, I believe good things can happen. So I continue to hope. Thank you very much for taking the time to read this. I pray that it is GOD's will for your organization to respond to this email. I really need a miracle. If your organization can help.........I will be honored to share my whole story with you. It will probably be good therapy for me. God bless whoever reads this. Sincerely, George Hocker
