Unlike many organizations whose focus is immediate or emergency care, Hill crest's objective is to move families from homelessness to self-sufficiency within 90 days by addressing the total live situation of the homeless families they serve. In exchange for rent/utility-free housing, residents are required by written agreement to work full time, obey program guidelines and attend volunteer-taught classes in life skills, employment, community living and budgeting. Hill crest also provides the following through a network of community support: auto repair/donation, food pantry, medical assistance, dental work, GED classes, haircuts, glasses, school clothes, work uniforms, etc. Hill crest is a non-profit 501c3 with four affiliate locations in the greater Kansas City Metro area - Platte, Clay, Eastern Jackson Counties and Kansas - supported by the local community and community service volunteers.

Mission Statement: To be a transitional housing program providing a Christian environment that helps homeless families become self-supportive, self-reliant contributors to society.

I am displaced and have been for quite awhile. I have tried to get back on my feet to be independent but find it difficult without a safe place to live. I am 56 and am a registered nurse by profession. I have been unemployed for a few years secondary to breaking my leg and unable to work. I have fully recovered and ready to start fresh. I have no car, no phone, no job and no place to live. My last stop is now at a friend's house but it is not ideal. He is only letting me stay for a few days. I can't renew my nursing license because I owe state taxes. I am extremely frustrated. I let time get away from me. I really need a place to stay that is free of drama and safe. I just want to work and find an affordable place to stay. I hope you can help me or refer me to a place that can.
