The Monadnock Area Transitional Shelter offers safe, comfortable housing for families, couples and individuals as they move from homelessness to home. Individuals, couples, and families can find a haven in one of four apartments within the Peterborough shelter. The actual location of the house is protected for the privacy of guests. They cover rent and utilities for up to seventeen guests at a time in 1 and 2 bedroom apartments. All of the units are furnished through generous contributions, and the shelter is operated and run by volunteers. Their goal is to help guests return to self-sufficiency in a home of their own. The average length of stay in the shelter varies from year to year, but most guests stay for a minimum of three to six months. During that time, their program manager provides a wide range of counseling and support to guests education, life-skills, access to transportation, social services, affordable housing, and medical care.

Mission Statement: The Monadnock Area Transitional Shelter's mission is to provide transitional housing, support, and referral services to people who are homeless; to educate our community on issues of homelessness; and to advocate for solutions.

We have lived in Peterborough for 12 years. We will be moving later this year out-of-state. We have many excellent condition stuffed animals. I offered them to the P'Boro Fire Department to comfort families displaced by fire. They said they generally don't use them, but suggested that you may have an interest. Please let me know if you could use any stuffed animals, and, if so, how many you would like. We have an abundance which we don't want to take with us when we move.
