Veterans Place of Washington Boulevard was created to establish a rehabilitative, residential complex for the growing population of homeless United States military veterans in the Western Pennsylvania/Tri-state area. The goal of Veterans Place, working in partnership with the Pittsburgh Veterans Administration Health System and other Veterans organizations, is to facilitate the return of formerly homeless veterans to society as viable, valuable citizens who can contribute to the economy and well being of their community. Eligible veterans must have completed inpatient rehabilitation at one of the local VA Health System hospitals. Additionally, to remain at Veterans Place the residents must demonstrate continued sobriety/abstinence from alcohol and drug use. A Service Center, completed in 2008, is the cornerstone of clinical, supportive, educational and vocational programs to assist veterans in recovery from homelessness and addiction. The Service Center also provides basic support to non-resident Veterans, such as AA and NA meetings, computer training, job hunting assistance and budgeting/financial coaching. Additional support includes GED preparation, literacy training and post-traumatic stress disorder counseling.

Mission Statement: To empower Veterans’ transition from Homeless to Home, ending the cycle of homelessness to become engaged, valuable citizens who contribute to their communities.
